Indonesia is an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia which is crossed by the equator and located between the continents of Asia and Oceania, so it is known as a transcontinental country, as well as Indonesia consists of over 17,000 islands
Indonesia is home to over 600 ethnic groups, making it one of the most diverse countries in the world. Most of these groups are Austronesian, found mainly in western and central Indonesia, with a significant minority of Melanesian people in eastern Indonesia. Indonesia has the largest population of both Austronesians and Melanesians worldwide.
The Javanese are the largest ethnic group, making up about 40% of the population. They live mainly on the island of Java, the most populous island in the world, particularly in the central and eastern regions. The Sundanese, located in the western part of Java and southern Sumatra, are the next largest group. Other significant groups include the Malays, Batak, Madurese, Betawi, Minangkabau, and Bugis.
